The Fox - The Legend of Harry Hopman
The story of golden era of Australian tennis always seems to come back to Harry Hopman - the man who urged, cajoled and demanded the players under his watch attain the highest levels of fitness and sportsmanship. The players who came into his orbit won 16 Davis Cups and more than 100 Grand Slam titles from Jack Crawford to John McEnroe. This biography is the result of five years of research plus scores of interviews to piece together Hopman's life story from the scrappy battler as a player to the self-taught coach and trainer. This book has been beautifully published in illustrated hardback by Pitch Publishing. www.pitchpubishing.co.uk so is not available from this site but can be ordered on line from Amazon or most other bookshops.

Garry Sobers in South Australia
This rare footage shows a few moments of Garry Sobers' three seasons in South Australia in the early 60s. Decades on his fluid movement at the crease is still a thing of beauty. Prior to his arrival no player had ever taken 50 wickets and scored 1000 runs in a Sheffield Shield season - Sobers did it twice.

The Artful Dodger Revisited
In 1969, NWS-9 made a tribute film about Lindsay Head to mark his 300th game for West Torrens. It was produced by Patrick Taggart and Trevor Jones and narrated by sports show host Eldon Crouch. The film was shot by Mal Foreman who, using a 16 mm camera, managed to focus on Head in the blur of a match and capture the essence of the time and space he created. The film survived from a kinescope copy and remains a rare timepiece that takes the viewer inside the game at a time when coverage of the sport was primitive. Here are some snippets of the 30-minute film along with a few recent reflections from the Artful Dodger himself - Lindsay Head.

In June 1963, South Australia upset Victoria by 7 points on the MCG. It was the first time an SA side had won in Melbourne since 1926 and only the third time the big V had been humbled at home by South Australia. The result brought an outpouring of joy. This short film views the match through the memories of three players and marks the legacy of the famous win.
